Discover Our Causes

Our causes are selected with care and driven by the desire to improve lives in practical and meaningful ways.

Meaningful Causes That Transform Lives

Focused by Design. Invested for Impact.

Purpose Forward Foundation exists to make meaningful, measurable change for people and projects in genuine need.

We do not attempt to support every worthy cause.

Focus is not a limitation—it is a strategy.

Our Investment Approach

We think in terms of investments, not handouts.

Each cause must demonstrate:

  • Real human need.
  • Credible leadership.
  • Accountability and transparency.
  • Measurable progress.
  • Alignment with our principles.
  • We intentionally limit the number of active investments so each one can matter.
  • We limit our basket of investments to no more than 12 to 15.
    • Core investment target of 5 to 6.

Core Investment: Homelessness & Human Dignity

Cherry Street Mission

Homelessness is one of society’s most persistent and complex failures—and one of its most misunderstood.

Cherry Street Mission represents a private, mission‑driven approach focused on restoring dignity, structure, and accountability.

Rather than managing homelessness, it emphasizes pathways to self‑sufficiency.

Our proximity allows us to:

  • Observe what works firsthand.
  • Engage directly with leadership.
  • Evaluate outcomes beyond statistics.
  • Support models that can be replicated.

We are not simply funding services.

We are working alongside Cherry Street to pursue better solutions.

Sub-Investment: Families, Children & Early Intervention

Karat School Project (KSP)

Within our homelessness focus, the Karat School Project (KSP) functions as a sub-investment and building block of the broader homelessness challenge.

In the United States, KSP supports families and children experiencing or nearing homelessness by providing:

  • Clothing
  • Meals
  • Access to education and stability

Internationally, KSP focuses on education and empowerment, particularly for girls and women, where modest resources can produce transformational human return on investment (H-ROI).

KSP is intentionally small and nimble, allowing:

  • Direct communication with leadership.
  • Clear visibility into outcomes.
  • Capital that meaningfully matters.

Core Investment: Medical Research

Parkinson’s Disease Research

Purpose Forward’s support for Parkinson’s research is grounded in personal knowledge and trusted relationships.

Our involvement is built upon a close relationship with Dr. Thyagarajan Subramanium, a respected leader in Parkinson’s research and treatment. This relationship allows us to move beyond generic fundraising toward informed, targeted investment.

We focus on credible science, disciplined research, and a realistic path toward improved treatments and outcomes. Parkinson’s steals quality of life too early and too often; our approach here mirrors all others—selective, informed, and outcome-driven.

Core Investment: Waste & System Efficiency

  • Environmental Stewardship Through Elimination of Waste
  • Environmental reform does not begin with ideology.
  • It begins with eliminating visible, preventable waste.
  • Waste of paper.
  • Waste of food.
  • Waste of fuel.
  • Waste of labor.
  • When systems waste resources, they harm both people and the environment.
  • Purpose Forward invests where inefficiency is measurable, solvable, and scalable.

Our Approach

We do not fund symbolism.
We fund system correction.

Each initiative must demonstrate:

  • Visible, preventable waste.
  • Practical intervention.
  • Measurable results.
  • Replicable structure.
  • Leadership access and accountability.

Efficiency is not partisan.

Conservation is not ideological.

Eliminating waste is common sense.

Lead Initiative: Junk Mail Waste

Eliminating Industrial-Scale Paper Waste

Billions of unsolicited mail pieces are printed, transported, delivered, and discarded each year—consuming trees, water, fuel, and labor only to end up in the trash.

Junk Mail Waste addresses this macro-level inefficiency by focusing on:

  • Reducing waste at the source.
  • Increasing consumer awareness.
  • Encouraging private-sector solutions.
  • Promoting systemic reform

Environmental benefit follows efficiency.

Core Investment: Lunch Out of Landfills (LOOL)

Eliminating Institutional Food Waste

In K–12 schools, unopened milk cartons and packaged food are discarded daily—not due to spoilage, but due to lack of recovery systems.

Lunch Out of Landfills (LOOL) implements practical solutions:

  • Share Tables
  • Recovery refrigeration.
  • Clear implementation frameworks.
  • Impact tracking.

Documented results include:

  • ~50 pounds recovered per school per day.
  • ~11,500 milk cartons saved annually per school.
  • Meaningful landfill diversion and cost savings.
  • Founder Jeff Ott maintains direct engagement with LOOL leadership, ensuring active stewardship and disciplined oversight.

This is a local system's correction with national scalability.

Why This Matters

Waste represents lost resources, lost efficiency, and lost opportunity.

Reducing waste:

  • Conserves natural resources.
  • Improves operational systems.
  • Reduces landfill impact.
  • Models responsibility for the next generation.

Waste is not inevitable.

It is correctable.

And correcting systems is how purpose becomes progress.

Ongoing & Future Investments

Our current investments are the beginning, not the finish line.

Over time, we intend to build a focused basket of five to six core investments.

Every new cause follows a disciplined path:

  • Exploration and learning.
  • Initial sub-investment.
  • Core investment consideration.

By limiting the number of active investments, we preserve:

  • Focus
  • Accountability
  • Meaningful Engagement

Focused by Choice

  • We are not limiting what we care about.
  • We are deliberate about where we invest.
  • This is how purpose becomes progress.
  • Major Themes that Guide Our Future Investments.
  • Environmental Stewardship: Focus on Waste.
  • Feeding, education, and care of our most vulnerable: children.
